With a VISION of Providing equal opportunities in higher education, particularly Vocational Education, for women so as to educate and enable girl students for vocational and professional excellence and skills to fulfill the needs of changing scenario, economic conditions and business policies of the government . The COLLEGE OF NON CONVENTIONAL VOCATIONAL COURSES FOR WOMEN (CNCVCW) was established in 1994 under the umbrella of Chh. Shahu Institute of Business Education Research (SIBER) Kolhapur under the guidance and dynamic leadership of Prof Dr A D Shinde who took the initiative in this direction to benefit girl students in Maharashtra.


The Objective is to provide Professional education and develop the skills of the female students in Maharashtra particularly, the students coming from rural areas. Professional education is imparted in the field of Fashion Designing.

The main objectives of the course are:

1. To impart the education and knowledge related to Dress Making and Fashion Designing right from the source of inspiration to final finished product.


2. To enable the students to work as.“ the freelance designers ”

3. To enable the students to seek employment in ready made garment-manufacturing units.

4. To help the students start their own business, export boutiques or to work as Coordinators in all Dress Designing related firms.

5. To equip the students with basic knowledge of market dynamics, for developing and designing the fashion garments keeping in mind the various technical requirements and limitations

Keeping the above points in mind the syllabus has been formulated to give the students thorough knowledge in various aspects such as Garment Designing, Garment Making, Fashion Merchandising, Computer Aided Designing, Management and Entrepreneurship, etc.


Bachelor In Dress Making And Fashion Co ordination [BDFC]
Being affiliated to Shivaji University, the curricular aspects are followed according to University norms.


Eligibility for the admission to the first year degree in BDFC is the candidate must have passed the Higher Secondary Examination (10+2) of Maharashtra State Board or Any Examination of a statutory university with Science, Arts, Commerce or Vocational Streams.

BDFC IInd Year

Students with 10+3 year Diploma in Textile Technology, Diploma in Fashion Designing, Diploma in Handloom Technology ,Diploma in Garment Designing, Diploma in Textile Designing, from a Technical Education Board Or any other Government authority of any state can take direct admission to second year BDFC course. Total strength including all the three years for each course is 180 students i.e. 60 students for each class. Total numbers of papers the students have to take up are 27 papers for BDFC.

With these papers the 2nd year degree students have a compulsory subject ‘Environmental Studies ‘according to the UGC. The exam is conducted by the university and the result is declared in form of grades.


Students are expected to undergo a minimum of 30 days industrial in-plant training in an Export House, Garment Manufacturing Unit, Boutique, or any Functional areas related to Fashion. The internship should be completed during the summer vacations after the completion of BDFC second year.

Self-employment or working as a Freelance Designer.


To fulfill all these the department has very spacious classrooms, Workshops, studios, Full-fledged Library. The college also has Computer lab with specific software’s in Fashion Design, like Corel Draw, Auto Cad and Reach Cad etc. There is a 24 hour internet facility (Wi Fi internet facility) for students and staff. We also have an audio visual lab, Seminar hall and various teaching aids like OHP, Paxiscope, LCD’s etc.

Fashion design department has very young, enthusiastic and experienced teaching staff. Staff members of this college are very well experienced and are continuously upgrading their knowledge by attending various Seminars/ Workshops/ Conferences organized at different places.

             One of the very major features of this course is the Annual Exhibition “IMAGINARIUM” where the students from all the three departments put their heart and soul in portraying their talents and Skills. “IMAGINARIUM” receives tremendous media coverage and is well appreciated by the student community, Educationalists, Professionals and also the common public. This exhibition happens to be one of the most awaited events in Kolhapur.

College carries outs some minor community services like:

Conducting an exhibition where the people get an opportunity to know about various activities of the college.

‘No Vehicle day’ is observed at the college by the staff and students.

Every year students with their teachers visit the respective departments to gain knowledge about the courses and the subjects.


With these activities and many more, the academic year comes to an end with the annual examinations and a Farewell party for the outgoing students. Here begins the new relation with the students that is the ‘Placement and Alumni.’ We have a very strong Alumni and Placement, where in many of our students are very well placed in numerous Industries, Institutes, Colleges, Firms and many of them are even self employed.


-    After the 1st term and the terminal exams the weaker students are identified and a list of the same is prepared. And remedial classes are conducted for these students.

-    With 50% of the students coming for these courses are from rural areas that have their education in the regional language up to higher secondary. We make special Efforts for these students who switch over from regional language to English medium. The oral and written communication of these students is improved by Conducting various Seminars, Displays, Presentations, and Assignments etc.


The college timing for the course is 09.00 AM To 03.00 PM From Monday to Saturday.
